I think it had been my first time out of state since I had graduated from college and it was for my then future-husband's dad's funeral in Ohio.  Selfishly, I was happy to be in another state, away from the struggle to get a job during the recession.  

As we drove from the airport to Oxford; passing strip malls that look the same everywhere, I could've told you I was in Colorado.  

"Oh no!" I thought, "is culture disappearing everywhere?  What is the geographic cure and will that treatment be available when I have enough money to relocate?"

That poverty and fear may be a cultural attitude.
